Sliding loft doors from the Portamet Custom offer are ideal for all those who wish to create unique interiors. They are a perfect alternative to standard doors of Portamet Standard, wooden doors or sliding barn doors. They are perfect for residential spaces as well as offices, living rooms and places where, for various reasons, it is not possible to install traditional opening doors. Portamet focuses above all on quality and customer service. That is why we use the highest quality materials from certified suppliers for our projects. It is important to note that all the manufacturing takes place in Poland, in our factory in Gdansk. The fact that we manufacture our own loft doors guarantees us direct and continuous supervision of the manufacturing process, thanks to which we control each of its individual stages. Our many years of experience in the loft doors industry enable us to offer doors that meet the expectations of even the most demanding customers. All these aspects guarantee the quality and durability of the final product.

When is the sliding loft door the best choice?

Sliding doors are most often chosen for 2 reasons:

  • 1. Visual aspect - a matter of preference; some customers like this solution better than traditional opening doors; a simple way to achieve an eye-catching effect;
  • 2. Practical aspect - internal sliding doors allow extra space to be created and optically enlarge the space. In addition, this solution makes it possible to cut off the room in question from the rest of the interior instantaneously.

How is the sliding loft door different from any classic loft door?

Instead of a classic door frame, sliding doors are mounted on a rail on which they move with the use of trolleys. Another difference is the method of opening. Sliding doors, unlike classic doors, open parallel to the wall. Moving left or right along the rail, they open or close the doorway. The sliding solution can easily separate seemingly incommodious rooms and create the effect of a beautiful disappearing wall. The sliding system is recommended for any room, from the bedroom, the bathroom to the dressing room.

Timeless design and simplicity.

Our projects are characterized by minimalist style and lightness of workmanship, which makes them timeless and not bound by fashion trends. We offer our customers designs from our Portamet Standard offer as well as custom designs outside our product range tailored to the customer's requirements.

How to install the sliding loft door?

The installation can be carried out in 2 ways. 1. Specialised installation/construction team - in this case, our contracted professionals perform the installation service from A to Z and the customer does not have to worry about anything; 2. Self-installation - our sliding systems can be installed either on the wall or on the ceiling. Installation of the glazing is so easy that customers are able to install it themselves using basic tools: a drill, spirit level, and a screwdriver.

Method of installing the sliding loft door.

Sliding doors can be installed in 3 ways: 1. above the door opening – the rail is installed above the door opening moving along the wall; 2. On the ceiling – the rail is installed on the ceiling; 3. In the wall – the rail, together with the entire door leaf, is installed on the ceiling and then retracted into the recess. Some of our customers refer to this solution as a "door hiding in the wall”. Such installation can be carried out in 2 ways. The first is the installation as in the 2nd case, combined with a plasterboard fitting. Another option is the installation in a wall cassette dedicated to this type of development. The cassette is already prepared for the door and it contains all the necessary systems such as the rail, slower, and trolleys. Solutions 1 and 2 can be implemented at any stage of construction, either during or after the rooms have been arranged. If you are planning a cassette or plasterboard fitting, this should be taken into consideration when arranging the interior.

Where does the sliding loft door work best?

Loft sliding doors are most often used in flats and houses. For several years now, restaurants, offices, cafés, hotels and showrooms have increasingly been purchasing doors on rails. The advantage of this solution is that it can be installed both in large rooms and in very small ones, whose functional arrangement can be a real challenge. Loft glazing in sliding systems, apart from separating rooms, also has a decorative function, reviving them and giving them a stylish look. Their luxurious design adds character to any interior. Thanks to the possibility of personalizing the glass, it will work in practically any room. Sliding loft doors are most often ordered with three types of glazing: 1.Transparent glazing - ideal as an alternative to classic doors. The advantage of such glazing is the high daylight permeability. With this solution, the separated room is still fully illuminated, just as with a fully open door. Such glazing is most often used to separate offices with glass walls, to separate a bedroom from a bathroom or a room, or in a vestibule. 2. Milky/frosted loft glazing - mostly used as bathroom/shower, pantry doors. In the first case, they have the advantage of letting some light into the separated room, and they also enable other household members to know that someone is using the room without being able to see what is going on inside. 3. Wardrobe or dressing room - in this case, the sliding loft door is most often used with a mirror. It is an ideal solution for built-in elements, e.g. a wardrobe in the bedroom. An additional advantage of this solution is that the room with such glazing becomes optically larger. Thanks to the fact that the loft glazing is practically flush with the wall (only protruding a few centimeters) it is ideal for small rooms, where classic doors cannot be used. The additionally generated space can be used to place functional furniture. The possibility to select an individual colour from the RAL range means that we can manufacture loft sliding doors in virtually any color so customers are able to match them to the style of any flat or house. Furthermore, if members of the household experience any annoying draughts, loft glazing on a rail will work perfectly. As a result, the door will not slam in the wind and the draught itself will not affect its installation.

Disadvantages of the sliding loft door.

Despite the abovementioned advantages of loft doors, their disadvantages should also be mentioned, as we should be aware of them when planning our interior: - problems with arrangement - on the wall on which the sliding door moves it is not possible to place any furniture or to hang any protruding decorations such as framed photographs or mirrors. - lower air-tightness - sliding doors are less airtight than classic doors. This is because a certain distance must be left between the door and the wall. As a result, doors on rails have lower thermal and sound insulation values.
